Conversations from Room 34

Today marks the day that I officially got asked "the question" from one of my students. If you don't know what "the question" is, read below:

Me: And here is a picture of a hen and an egg. (Showing a book to the class)
Student: Where do eggs come from?
Me: Well, they come from the hen.
Student: Okay...how do they come out? It's butt? (This is where I smirked...I know, I am bad at being the stoic teacher)
Me: Hmm....kind of. (said hesitantly, choosing words carefully)
Student: Do people have eggs?
Me: No, people have babies.
Student: Babies get cut out of the tummy to come out.
Me: Not all babies are cut out. (This is probably a poor choice)
Student: Then how does the baby come out? (This is the point I got a little red...)
Me: Well--why don't you ask your mom about that?
Student: It's the butt isn't it? I knew it.
Me: No....That's really something to talk about at home--just ask your mom and she'll be happy to explain it.
Student: Fine. Then how do you get a baby inside?
Me: Okay! We are moving on in the lesson folks.

Just a daily snippet of what we talk about in my class. Stay tuned for more interesting conversations.

GF Blueberry Muffins

Gluten Free Lovers (or those that just love good food!)
I made these this morning and they were DELICIOUS! Even my hubby loved them! :)

GF Blueberry Muffins
Ingredients:
1/4 cup sugar
2 T butter
1 egg
1/4 cup oil
1/2 cup potato starch
3/4 cup cornstarch
1/4 tsp baking soda
1 1/2 xanthan gum
1 T baking powder
2/3 cup milk
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla
1 1/2 cup of blueberries

Topping:
1 T sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar

Preheat oven to 350 degree. In medium bowl, cream together sugar and shortening. Add remaining ingredients except blueberries and mix well. Be sure there are no lumps. Fold in blueberries.
Pour batter into greased muffin tins 2/3 full each. Sprinkle with sugar topping. Bake 20-23 minutes, until toothpick tests clean and tops are lightly browned.
ENJOY!

Roomies Reunite! :)

This weekend Jeff and I were thrilled to have visitors--my college roomie and her fiance! I love this couple! Their visit consisted of a tour of ND, dinner out, Ritters ice-cream, games, and late night talking. Can't wait until they become Mr. and Mrs. Klingenberg! :)

A Sunday Visit with the DeMaagds

Today we enjoyed the company of our really good friends (that also happen to be family!) Tom, Lisa, and Tiffany. The sun was shining and it was a good day. It was a wonderful way to start a new week!
Enjoy some pictures of their quick visit! :)

BIG yawn!

Tiff was a cuddlebug today--I guess that's what happens when you are coming off from being sick!
