Summer Must-Reads!

Here are a few books that I have been my favorites and I encourage everyone to read them as well! These books are either memories or historical fiction. Seriously--check them out and make them your summer reads!

1. The Same Kind of Different as Me by Ron Hall and Denver Moore--this is my favorite book of all time. It is a true story about a wealthy white man and a homeless black man and how their lives intersected. It is a Christian novel with a mix of funny, sad, moving, and clever.

2. The Red Tent by Anita Diamant--this is the story of Dinah from the Bible. Dinah was the only recorded daughter of Jacob and her story is told in her eyes. The author did an excellent job painting the background of this story and adding detail so the reader can picture life as a woman during Biblical times.

3. The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows--this is a story that takes place post WWII on Guernsey Island. It is comical, has romance, and is informational all in the same time! I loved it!

If you have any book suggestions for me please share!!! :)

  1. Same kind of Different as me is also one of my favorite books. I loved it! I had to read it for a book club this year and had a hard time putting it down. Luckily Lilly was just a few weeks old, so I could read pretty much any time she was sleeping and eating :)

I have a few books to recommend:
    1) Hitch-Hikers Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams - it is a classic, very funny and I have read it about 3000 times and keeps getting better every time. You would be surprised when reading the book at how many one lines have been taken form this book and brought into pop culture.
    2) I love the Author Gregory Maguire, he wrote the book Wicked the was written in to the screenplay for Broadway. I like Wicked, but my favorite book of his was Confessions of an ugly step sister. He takes fairy tails and puts a bit of a dark spin on them and in this case it was Cinderella. Things are not always as they seem...
3)Kane & Able by Jeffrey Archer - story is a play on the Biblical brothers, Cain and Abel.he book tells the stories of two men born worlds apart. They have nothing in common except the same date of birth and a zeal to succeed in life. They eventually become rivals to be the top of the newspaper industry. It is an amazingly written story, and perfect for at the lake!

I have many more... but I think that's enough for now!
